With the hot season fast approaching, my front entryway has been in dire need of a spring refresh. I’ve been wanting to revamp the currently blank space into a warm welcome area that greets guests and my family as they walk through the front door. However, I do not want to spend an arm and a leg on renovations so have given myself a strict budget of $180 to get the job done.
I’ve been perusing online for weeks now, gathering my top essentials for the mini makeover, and am excited to transform what is currently a bland white-walled square room into something more functional and inviting. I’ve landed on six decor items to use both inside and outside my front door that’ll do the job, including a cheery wreath, a useful umbrella holder, and even a vintage-inspired mirror. And after running the numbers, it comes out to a grand total of $181—$1 over budget is basically under budget. Right?

Buy on Amazon One of the simplest ways to give your home a welcoming facelift is with a spring-ready wreath—like this one decked out in daisies. Over 1,000 shoppers purchased the wreath this month, so it’s safe to say that the little yellow flowers are in. This last Christmas was my first time purchasing a faux wreath, and I’ve been on a quest to find one for the warm months. I’ve purchased my fair share of live wreaths and always end up sad when it comes time to throw the once-blooming pieces away. So this year, I’ve decided on this sunny beauty that one five-star reviewer says is “even better than it appears on Amazon.”
Buy on Amazon Fellow Southerners know that with the coming of spring, means the arrival of rain. With the start of hurricane season, there are sure to be more than a few thunderstorms, so an umbrella stand is a must. This steel stand brings a touch of industrial feel and comes with a removable drip catcher to collect excess water. Even when full of umbrellas, reviewers note that it’s “sturdy and doesn't tip over.”
Buy on Pottery Barn Our entryway has a built-in bench with cubbies where we store our dog’s toys and gear. However, the old basket we keep his stuff in doesn’t have a lid, and the often overflowing bin looks perpetually messy—that’s why I’m opting for lidded storage solutions. These best-selling wicker baskets will not only look pretty in the bench cubbies, but they’ll keep the area looking nice and organized.
Buy on Walmart A larger addition I’ve been shopping around for since we moved into the house a year ago is the perfect entryway mirror. I decided on a mirror instead of wall art for the smaller space to bring in more light and warmth. This 20 by 30-inch mirror has an unbeatable price for its size. As one five-star reviewer says, it “looks antique and like it would be an expensive piece.” I want the mirror to feel like an installation, and the best-selling metal filigree detail brings charm and character.
Buy on Target For me, spring means an attempt at deep cleaning, and this year, I’ve decided to focus on cutting down on clutter. I’m making the switch from my old catch-all with an envelope slot to a simple key hook rail in hopes that I’ll deal with my mail immediately instead of letting it pile up. The golden hooks will pair perfectly with the arch mirror and bring in warmth, plus will double as a place for guests to hang their coats or hats as they enter the front door.
Buy on Wayfair To create a warm greeting to guests this spring and the upcoming long summer, a literal warm ‘welcome’ will do just the trick. I’m replacing my plain doormat with this cheerful upgrade that is adorned with a colorful, flower design. The all-weather mat has to stand up to the extreme Southern clime, and this mat is durable enough to resist the weather, stains, and fading. It also has a rubber backing to keep it in place.
