In the pantheon of video games, Mario Kart has become a modern classic. I mean, who hasn’t played Mario Kart, whether on their own device or with a friend? Not only is it super entertaining and an easy game to understand, but the graphics are colorful, fun, lively, and great for all ages. But if for some reason you don’t yet own Mario Kart, you can now get it for your Nintendo Switch at a pretty sweet discount.
Across multiple retailers, for the Switch is currently on sale for 33% off in honor of Mar10 Day. You can grab a physical copy from or Walmart (which is a nice choice if you’re planning on gifting it) or the digital version, all for the same discounted price of $40. That said, Nintendo is only running this deal for a short time, so we’d recommend jumping on it ASAP if you’re interested.
$40 at walmart.comAccommodating up to four players at a time, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has previously made Road & Track’s list of best racing games for the Switch. “We played through both the single-player career mode (where you unlock various characters, karts, and kart parts), as well as the multiplayer, and both provided the signature experience we've become accustomed to across decades of Mario Kart iterations,” Associate Testing Editor for Hearst Autos Gannon Burgett wrote in their list.
Speaking of characters, there are tons to choose from here, including classic Mario characters, as well as options from other games like Link from The Legend of Zelda, Isabelle from Animal Crossing, and Inkling Girls and Boys from Splatoon. And of course, there are plenty of fun locations for you to race with whatever character you choose.
“Each of the tracks has its unique twists, turns, and visually stunning sceneries (hello, Rainbow Road!),” Burgett wrote in the list. While we love the exciting tracks that come with the game (this version has three different Rainbow Road options, as well as Wario’s Gold Mine and Bowser’s Castle), you can also grab the Booster Course Pass for $25 in the Nintendo eShop if you want even more racetracks to play with — including city-centric options like London Loop and Tokyo Blur and two additional Rainbow Road courses.
Whether you’re shopping for yourself or looking for a fun, budget-friendly gift, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch is a solid option, and currently at over 30% off.
