9 Best MagSafe Chargers for Fast and Wire-Free Charging
Sep 29, 2024 6:27 PM

Apple’s MagSafe delivers an elevated wireless charging experience to the iPhone. With an array of magnets around the wireless charging coil, MagSafe makes it easy to align your iPhone on a compatible wireless charger. In contrast, a conventional wireless charger may not charge your device unless it’s precisely placed in the correct spot. MagSafe also supports an entire ecosystem of accessories, including wallets, cases, and batteries.

After making its debut on the iPhone 12 lineup, MagSafe has become a staple in all new iPhone models, including the latest iPhone 14 series. There are dozens of MagSafe chargers available, such as our top pick, the . But not all MagSafe chargers are created equal, and you can get a very different experience depending on what you choose. In addition to various form factors, some MagSafe chargers charge at different speeds, affecting how quickly your iPhone’s battery goes from empty to full.

It can get confusing, but we’ll explain the details and recommend the best MagSafe chargers worth buying.

  The Best MagSafe Chargers

Best Overall: Best Runner-Up: Nomad Stand Best Budget: Best 2-in-1: Best 3-in-1: Best MagSafe Battery Pack:

  What to Consider

MagSafe chargers come in various styles and support different charging speeds, and different models are suited for different scenarios. There's a lot to consider before buying a MagSafe charger, so here are the features to consider.

  Style

The two main styles are charging pads and charging stands. There are also charging pucks and magnetic batteries. A MagSafe charging pad can charge your iPhone as it lies on its back. These work well on a nightstand where your device may sit overnight. Meanwhile, a MagSafe charging stand is an excellent option for your desk, where you might use your iPhone throughout the day. These chargers elevate your device off the table at a comfortable angle, allowing you to interact with notifications and make FaceTime calls.

With a new StandBy feature coming in iOS 17, there will likely be more interest in MagSafe charging stands. StandBy essentially turns your iPhone into a smart display once you place the device horizontally on a charger. When enabled, StandBy allows you to see glanceable information such as the time, widgets, and Live Activities.

   Charging Speed

Confusingly, MagSafe chargers offer different charging output speeds. The majority of products available are MagSafe-compatible. These devices are Qi wireless chargers with magnets built into them, delivering an output power that tops out at 7.5 watts. There are also MagSafe-certified chargers, which offer an output power that tops out at 15 watts. The higher a MagSafe charger’s capacity, the faster it can replenish your iPhone’s battery.

In general, MagSafe-certified chargers are more expensive than chargers that are MagSafe-compatible. That said, the faster charging output can affect how quickly your iPhone’s battery charges, so you may want to spend the extra money on a MagSafe-certified model if you care about charging speed. However, the output power won’t make a significant difference if you’re charging your device overnight. For the fastest possible charging experience, the best combination is a wall charger and Lightning cable.

  Single vs. 2-in-1 vs. 3-in-1

How many Apple devices do you own? The answer to that question may determine whether you need a MagSafe charger to charge one, two, or three devices simultaneously. For example, the MagSafe-certified Nomad Stand One features a single charger that’s for your iPhone. Our top pick can charge both the iPhone and AirPods. Chargers like the can charge the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. A 3-in-1 charger can be more expensive and will generally take up the most space, but having a single charger for all your devices is convenient.

   Additional Accessories

Remember that most MagSafe chargers don’t come with a bundled power adapter or charging cable, so you’ll need to account for the additional cost in your budget. Thankfully a high-capacity USB-C charger is relatively affordable at less than $20. Depending on which MagSafe charger you buy, you’ll need a USB-C or USB-C to Lightning cable, both of which are available for .

Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger

  ProsCons

Bulky wall adapterYou’ll be hard-pressed to find a more elegant MagSafe charger than the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2-in-1. Its polished stainless steel arm can reflect its surroundings, making your iPhone look as if it’s floating in the air while charging in landscape or portrait mode.

Available in black or white, the accessory’s base can wirelessly charge your AirPods or countless other earbuds. A that can accommodate an Apple Watch is also available.

  2Best Runner-Up

  Nomad Goods Stand MagSafe Charger

  Pros

  Elegant and high-quality build

Hefty weight keeps it anchored on your deskCons

Wall adapter costs extraThe Nomad Stand MagSafe charger is a sturdy, sleek charging stand that’s perfect for a desk setup. It features a weighted metal base and glass surface, making the accessory feel more luxurious. That weight means the charger will stay firmly planted on a surface, allowing you to detach your iPhone with one hand.

Despite its more luxurious appearance, the Stand is only MagSafe-compatible and charges at a slower 7.5 watts. Nomad does offer the MagSafe-certified Stand One, which is the same thing as the Stand but charges at a faster 15 watts. Unfortunately, the Stand One is frequently out of stock (and more expensive), which is why we’re recommending the Stand.

Nomad’s Stand also features a 6.6-foot non-detachable USB-C cable, although you’ll need to supply a 20-watt adapter—you can find a Nomad 20-watt USB-C PD wall charger for $20. Even with its limitations and single-charging pad, the Stand is an excellent option and one of the best-looking MagSafe chargers available.

  3Best Budget

  Anker PowerWave Magnetic Charger

  Pros

  Long cable

  Sleek designCons

Slower 7.5-watt outputAnker’s Magnetic Charger is an affordable charging puck that is similar to the charging pucks from Apple and Belkin. It’s a straight-forward option that’s case-friendly and features a 5-foot built-in USB-C cable—double the length of the cable attached to Apple’s MagSafe charging puck. The longer cable means you won’t have to sit as close to the wall outlet.

However, you should be mindful that, unlike the options from Apple and Belkin, Anker’s charging puck offers a power output of 7.5 watts. You’ll also have to supply your own 20-watt USB-C wall adapter—something Anker offers .

  4Best 2-in-1

  Satechi 2-in-1 MagSafe Charging Stand

  Pros

  Beautiful design

  Adjustable charging padCons

Magnets may not hold iPhone 13 Pro Max or 14 Pro MaxThe Satechi 2-in-1 MagSafe Charging Stand is an excellent charger for Apple’s StandBy mode. The charger features an aluminum base that can charge your AirPods and includes an LED light to indicate the charging status. Like our top pick, it features a polished stainless steel arm that fits well into its surroundings, giving the illusion your iPhone is floating. The charger also features a ball mount that connects to the charging pad, allowing you to adjust the angle of your iPhone when it’s attached.

Satechi’s charger is MagSafe-compatible, which means it offers a maximum output of 7.5 watts. And while it technically supports the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Satechi notes that the magnets in the stand may not be strong enough to support the weight of these devices. That said, Satechi’s charger is an excellent 2-in-1 and a more affordable alternative to our top pick.

  5Best 3-in-1

Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger

  Pros

  Charges 3 devices simultaneously

  Supports fast-charge for Apple WatchCons

Wall adapter is bulkyThe Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger is tailor-made for anyone with an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. The stand elevates the iPhone (you can place it vertically or horizontally) and Apple Watch, angling them for comfortable viewing. In contrast, you can set the AirPods (or other wireless earbuds) on the charger’s base. Like Belkin’s 2-in-1 charger, the company's 3-in-1 supports a faster charging output of 15 watts.

The charger also offers Apple Watch fast-charge support for the Series 7, Series 8, and Ultra. Fast-charge support allows the Apple Watch to go from 0 percent to 80 percent in about 45 minutes, according to Apple. Our only gripe with Belkin’s charger is that the wall adapter is bulky, taking up a lot of space when plugged into an outlet. Otherwise, it’s the perfect 3-in-1 for charging your Apple devices.

The sleek and compact gadget will significantly extend its screen-on time between regular charging sessions, depending on your iPhone. And when connected to a Lightning cable and a standard wall charger, the accessory doubles as a fast MagSafe charging pad.

Best of all, like the iPhone, the iPad, and the Apple Watch, the Apple MagSafe battery allows you to protect and customize it with covers. Leading accessory makers like Bellroy, Casetify, and Nomad offer such products.

  7Most Versatile

  Belkin MagSafe Wireless Charger

  Pros

  Convenient viewing stand

  Fast charging speedCons

Wall adapter costs extraThis wired MagSafe charger by Belkin is the most versatile on this list. Unlike a magnetic stand or pad, the accessory won’t keep your iPhone stationary, allowing you to interact with it while charging. And thanks to an integrated kickstand, the gadget can hold the iPhone in landscape mode on a desk, a nightstand, or a table.

A longer fabric-covered cable is another reason the pricier Belkin product is worth considering over the Apple MagSafe charger mentioned above. You can order the product in black or white.

Short cableThe official Apple MagSafe charger is a must-have for new iPhone owners. It has a minimalist design with premium metal housing, perfectly aligned magnets, and fast charging speed. It can also charge Qi-compatible AirPods and other true wireless earbuds, too.

  9Most Travel-Friendly

  Apple MagSafe Duo Charger

  Pros

  Travel-friendly design

  Fast charging speed Cons

Wall adapter costs extraThanks to the MagSafe Duo Charger’s foldable design, the charger is an excellent option for travel. The fast-charging gadget folds in half when not in use, making it space-efficient and easy to store—it’s compact enough to fit in your pants pocket. The Duo Charger supports an output power of 15 watts, and the Watch charger flips up so you can charge the wearable in nightstand mode. The iPhone charger can also charge your AirPods.

We’ve traveled with the Duo Charger several times and always appreciate its ability to fold in half. That said, it’s not nearly as sturdy as something like Nomad’s excellent Base One Max. Nomad’s charger features a weighty design and allows you to detach the iPhone with one hand; the Duo Charger requires you to press down on the charger to remove your iPhone.
