Baby high chairs are a wonderful addition to your home. They’re a reliable space to feed your child, and they can really help parents out by allowing children to learn to feed themselves safely and in a contained environment. The best high chairs are stylish, ultra-functional, and safe. They're a classic baby shower gift and one of the most registered-for items. It’s a wow gift for sure, and if you’re buying it for Mom or Dad, you’re definitely going to be a favorite of the new parents.

  What to Consider

Not only do baby high chairs make feeding easier, but they also make life easier. It’s the perfect safe place to seat your child for meals and activities or to perch them in while they watch you make dinner. High chairs may feel like a pretty standard item — pick one you like, and you’re done. But in reality, there’s a lot more to look out for. Some things you’ll want to consider are style, how it cleans, what features it has, safety, and of course, cost.

  Materials

High chairs are a highly used item with some of the most rambunctious creatures on planet Earth. If the plastic is flimsy or the bolts don’t hold up, there's really no reason to buy it. As someone who had a very inexpensive, very famous high chair from a certain Swedish store with my first kid, I can tell you, you’ll want something stronger, like the Stokke Tripp Trapp.

The seat, if fabric, should be able to handle a ton of cleaning, . It should be made of a material that can be wiped down between washings and hold its shape. Those things can get gross and compacted, so the goal is to keep that from happening for as long as possible.

  Portability

There’s a good chance that, at some point, you’re going to want to take your high chair to different locations in your home or to a different home entirely. A heavy, huge high chair might not be the best choice if you’re not planning to keep it in one place. However, if this is going to be strictly in your kitchen, feel free to go for a heavier chair, perhaps one made of wood. They’re great quality, super durable, and easy to put together.

  How Does It Clean?

If a high chair is a pain to clean, do you really want to deal with it? There are arguably a lot of pieces involved when it comes to most high chairs: Straps, clasps, trays, cushions, and seats are all going to have to be cleaned over and over again. If it’s hard to do — if the fabrics don’t wipe clean, or if they’re not machine-washable — then why bother? Your baby is going to be using this high chair three times a day or more. So, don’t make your life any harder by getting one that doesn’t clean easily. You can even get a high chair that is entirely dishwasher-safe.

  Safety

When buying a high chair, you first want to make sure it conforms to all Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines. That means a passive crotch restraint (the bit of plastic or wood that separates the leg openings) and a three-point harness, at the very least. The high chair should have a base that is capable of holding the baby above 15 inches off the ground with limited risk of the seat tipping over due to a child’s exuberance.

We’ve also looked at reviews and tested chairs to see how those buckles hold up under sticky food conditions, and we have only chosen those seats that have performed well. They don’t get stuck or loose and are still operational under a barrage of mashed potatoes and cherry pie.

In the end, the team at Best Products is committed to bringing you the safest, best high chairs on the market. Because of that, it is essential for us to remind parents that The Cleveland Clinic urges you to use baby high chairs safely by utilizing them only when supervised. Do not allow babies to climb into the high chair themselves, and keep the high chair away from tables and counters so that your babies don’t use them to kick their chair over. And, of course, keep your child restrained with all the attached safety equipment.

These high chairs have been rigorously researched by Best Products to determine if they are approved by the CPSC, if they are useful and aesthetically pleasing, and if they are affordable and widely available. Each one of them has been tested by trusted families or our parenting editor (aka myself!). Here are our top picks!

13 Stylish High Chairs That Give Your Baby a Seat at the Table1

  1Best Overall

  Tripp Trapp High Chair

Not only does this high chair grow with your child, but it’s also extremely durable throughout it all. As an infant, your baby will sit very cozy in the easy-to-clean infant seat. As a toddler, they can sit at the table at the perfect height. As a kid, they can use it as a slightly elevated seat.

Sure, it’s meant for kids 6 months to 3 years, but with a weight limit of over 200 pounds and five height positions? It’s going to be used much longer.

This high chair is a bit on the heavy side, weighing 18 pounds because it’s solid hardwood. Beechwood, to be specific — and it’s the highest quality high chair I’ve ever seen. It’s hands-down my favorite high chair and is the one I had for my daughter.

The finish is neutral enough for almost any interior, and the sheen on it cleans up easily and swiftly, without damaging the seat. I’ve used Lysol wipes and Pledge, and it still shines like the day I bought it. The infant insert comes off easier than you’d think, allowing for regular deep cleans. There is just no comparison when you consider durability, style, and usefulness.

There’s a lot to love about the Oribel Cocoon Z high chair and lounger.

First, it has multiple reclining positions for feeding your baby, from infancy through toddlerhood. Second, the whole thing wipes clean with whatever you have handy (it’s baby wipes — let’s not lie to ourselves). Third, the tray swivels back and forth, which is a new, novel invention for high chairs, and it makes feeding really easy and convenient. And fourth? The gripping bottoms of the feet are substantial and strong, but they won’t ruin your floors.

Plus, how cute is that bold yellow? And if that’s not your cup of tea, this baby high chair comes in four different colors. The contrasting five-point harness is easy to clean, easy to thread, and easy to click into place. It’s a home run.

  3Best High-End

  Giraffe Wooden Baby High Chair

Credit: Bridget CleggHonestly, I wasn’t sure about this high chair at first because of its price. But I was gobsmacked by how nice it is. Everything about it is top-of-the-line, from the beechwood used to the five-point harness that keeps your baby safe in its seat. It’s adjustable without any tools, the tray is PFAS-free and easy to clean, and if you can believe it, it has a whopping 220 weight limit.

And there are a ton of available accessories, including an infant seat that can be used from birth. It’s intensely stylish and just as useful. Just putting it together was impressive. It took me less than 10 minutes!

  4Keeps Baby Close

Lemo 2 High Chair 4-in-1 Set

Our tester, Best’s SEO Strategist, Sean Abrams’ baby is just a few months old — far too young to eat anything other than formula or breast milk — but their baby spends a lot of time in this chair thanks to the infant seat that comes with it. It’s a safe place to keep your baby while you’re cooking that lifts them a little bit higher than a bouncer.

They told me that they love how convenient it is and how good it looks. Unlike the Bugaboo, everything comes with this seat, so it’s ready to hold your child from infancy through childhood.

It’s super chic, surprisingly easy to assemble and clean, and it’s not very bulky, so you can stash it more easily than many high chairs.

  5Great Value

  Moa 8-in-1 High Chair

Our tester tells Best Products, “It’s so lightweight you’d never guess how sturdy it is.” And it is one of the lightest high chairs on the market. It’s a great choice for parents who may not have the ability to lift much weight.

It’s a multi-function chair that your child can use from 6 months to elementary school. It’s a high chair, a booster with a tray, a booster without a tray, a stool, and a stool and desk. Every bit of the chair is easy to clean, thanks to the fact that the tray is dishwasher-safe.

Our tester ended up buying a second because they found they wanted one for their toddler because they were so enamored with it. It’s a ton of value for $180.

  6Best Travel High Chair

  Fast Table Chair

My favorite travel high chair by a mile. I bought this model to take my nieces and nephews out and about when I have them, and I can’t tell you how useful and easy it is. It’s also the high chair you have probably seen parents bring with them into restaurants. At one point, I saw four at a brewery at one time. It was hilarious. Inglesina should get their own IPA named for them at this point.

It won’t scratch the table thanks to the rubberized arms, and it attaches to tables up to 3.5 inches thick. It has its own carrying case, and the whole thing is easy to clean even though it’s hand-wash only. I just spray it off in the sink and let it dry. My sister-in-law loved the seat so much, she definitely “borrowed” it from me a few months ago. (I should probably buy a new one.)

  7Easiest to Clean

  GRUB 2-in-1 Convertible High Chair

Imagine a world where you could just toss the whole high chair into the dishwasher. Actually, you don’t need to imagine it: It already exists. Everything but the cushion and straps on this high chair from Boon is dishwasher-safe.

The Boon is also supremely adjustable, with varying positions for the seat, the tray, and the footrest. This makes it a solid investment for your child’s comfort, as well as your own convenience.

This is a great and affordable high chair that comes apart easily, feels very sturdy, and has a comfortable five-point harness to keep baby safe.

It looks great, and kids won’t mind hanging out in it, thanks to how cushy it is. Parents will love how easily it cleans up, thanks to the vinyl-coated fabric.

  9Easy to Convert

  DuoDiner DLX 6-in-1 High Chair

This 2-in-1 highchair converts to a booster when your child is ready to make the switch. For under $200, it’s utterly useful, thanks to its convertibility and ease of use. It’s not hard to convert, either.

I like that the base folds up easily and that there are not a ton of places for food to get stuck, making it hard to clean. I was able to clean the whole thing in a matter of seconds with a Lysol wipe.

It’s not the most compact when it’s a booster, but it appears to be very comfortable if all of the babies falling asleep upright say anything about it. Unrelated: Our tester says that her cat is the biggest fan of this high chair, so, double duty?

The fabric is machine-washable, but thanks to an ingenious coating, it wipes clean easily, too. So, don’t worry about having to do three loads of laundry each day.

  11Best for Small Spaces

  Clikk High Chair

Swedish style meets modern engineering with this minimalist high chair. This is a stylish, easy-to-clean option for small spaces. It also features its dynamic Clikk five-point harness for added safety. The tray is a little small, but that’s what helps it fit in the corner you so choose.

While the footprint is generous, the legs come off quickly and easily with no tools for travel and storage! It also comes with its very own travel bag.

Also, just look at it: It’s so, so pretty. The color, the style, the natural wood — all of it!

  12Best for Long Term Use

Height Right High Chair with Infant Insert and Tray

This seat can be used from 6 months to 250 pounds, thanks to its adjustability and durable frame. It comes with the tray and the cushioned seat, and the whole thing can be put together in about 15 minutes — despite how complicated it may look.

It’s a little harder to deal with than the Tripp Trapp, which is why this high chair wasn’t in the running for best overall.

  13Best Outdoor High Chair

  Camping Chair

Your tiny tailgater will be party-ready with this high chair.

The Ciao Baby portable high chair is an absolute lifesaver for parents on the go. It sets up like an outdoor sports chair, and you can hose it off just like you would any chair you’d tailgate with. It’s made of the same material, too.

It’s sturdier than you’re thinking (we promise), with a rugged tray and adorable cup holder for your baby’s preferred beverage. Plus, there’s a five-point harness for added safety.

This high chair is light as a feather and travels so well that my family even took it to Medieval Times, where my nephew proceeded to throw his bread into the arena. Unfortunately, the convenience of the chair did not outweigh the embarrassment.
